Technology And Your Vehicle's Console Manager.

In the last couple of decades technology has infiltrated many parts of our lives. So much so that there are few aspects of our daily lives that are not affected by it in some way. These advances, particularly over the last decade have been nothing short of revolutionary. Computing and healthcare are two industries where the influence of technology has been obvious but one industry where technology is overlooked by many is in the motor industry. However, if you have a closer look it is obvious that the technology that is built into modern cars is quite staggering. The most notable changes have occurred within the operating systems. In years gone by there was a small amount of computer involvement but today it is integrated to a very large degree. In fact, most modern vehicles feature a console manager or on board computer that manages most parts of the vehicle's operation.

These on board computer devices, also known as electronic management systems equip drivers with a vast array of information to ensure that the driver and any passengers are as safe and comfortable as possible. These on board computers provide useful and, in a number of cases, vital information, covering everything from the oil level to the temperature inside and outside the vehicle. Information is available to the driver via a display in the car. Of course, the amount and type of information displayed depends on the manufacturer and model but there are many details provided that are common to all.

Safety is increasingly becoming a high priority to car manufacturers both because of driver demands and ever stricter laws and regulations imposed on the manufacturers by different governments around the world. Indeed these laws often determine that cars pass various safety tests before they are legally allowed to be sold. Clearly, this has been great for consumers, however manufacturers find reason to complain about higher costs. However, some of these costs can be passed onto the consumer. Power steering is a brilliant innovation that has become a standard feature on nearly all of today's vehicles. Anti-lock braking is similarly widespread in today's marketplace. These have been important advances in terms of safety as they provide the driver with far more control over the vehicle, especially in adverse conditions, such as rain, or on unsealed roads. Neither of these safety features would function without a console manager or computer system.

Many of the more expensive vehicles available to the modern driver feature a satellite navigation system. These allow the driver to safely travel through areas they are unfamiliar with, which makes them ideal for the tourist. These navigation systems are rapidly making maps obsolete.

Most people tend to take their tyres for granted, and in fact only really give them any thought except in the case of emergencies. However, tyres are one part of the car that a car owner must pay attention to. Without a high quality set of well maintained tyres anti-lock braking systems and power steering are much less effective in maintaining control of the vehicle. Fortunately, modern tyres are designed to provide maximum grip in any conditions. However, this is no excuse for complacency.
